Raiders News · Boys XC place 2nd in the State Championships!

Congratulations to the Boys Cross Country team for their 2nd place finish at the PIAA State Championship at Hershey on Saturday.  Riverview finished with 130 points, 17 behind champion Winchester Thurston and 28 points ahead of 3rd place finisher, defending state champion –  Jenkintown.

The Raiders were led by medal winners, Mason Ochs-8th and Gid Deasy 14th, the first time a Riverview team achieved 2 individual medals at the State Championship.  It was Mason’s 2nd PIAA medal tying him with Ben Barnes for the most in RHS Boys history.  (Molly Kennedy  – class of 2015  – is the school’s overall record holder with 3 PIAA medals). Gid became the 6th athlete, male or female,  in school history to win a state XC medal.

As a team, the Raiders’ were in 4th place at the 1 mile and 3rd place after the 2nd mile,  but were able to pass 45 runners to move ahead of Jenkintown and Wyalusing Valley.

Sophomores Parker Steele, Ty Laughlin and Lucas Wilton accounted for 40 of those places as they moved up to finish with 35, 39 and 40 points respectively,  – thus helping to secure only  the 2nd PIAA trophy in Riverview sports history.    Jacob Sullivan (75) and Erik Ketterer (85) completed the scoring for the boys, as each beat multiple #5 runners from the other teams.  Erik finished as the top 7th-man at the Championships.

Congratulations to all of the Raiders on their successful historic season.
